IL - DA-100: Analyzing Data with Power BI
In this course we will discuss the methods and best practices in line with both business and technical requirements for modeling, visualizing data Power BI. We will also cover how to access and process data from a variety of different data sources including both relational and non-relational data. This course will also cover how to implement the proper security standards and policies across the Power BI spectrum. We will move on to discuss how to manage and deploy reports and dashboards for sharing as well as content distribution. We will wrap up by showing how to build paginated reports within the Power BI service and how to publish them to a workspace for inclusion within Power BI.

Module 01: Introduction
This module explores the landscape of the Power BI portfolio and describes several use cases for Power BI. The course then identifies and describes the role and responsibilities of a Data Analysts. We will cover he Power BI Portfolio and identifying tasks of the Data Analyst.
Module 02: Getting and Profiling Data
Module 2 explores identifying and connecting to different data sources. Students will also learn the basics on how to identify and optimize query performance issues. They will also learn how to perform proper data profiling in preparation for the subsequent step of cleaning and shaping the data prior to loading the data. This module will cover Data Sources, Storage Modes, Query Performance and Data Profiling.
Module 03: Cleaning and Transforming Data
Module 3 will cover the fundamental concepts of designing a data model for proper performance and scalability. It will provide a list of items to think about prior to building the model. This module will cover User-Friendliness, Combining Queries, data cleaning and transformation, advanced capabilities and configuring data loading and resolving errors.
Module 04: Designing a Data Model
In this module we will teach fundamental concepts of designing a data model for proper performance and scalability. This module instills in the student a list of items to think about prior to building the model. We will cover data modeling basics, measures and dimensions and model performance.
Module 05: Developing a Data Model
In Module 5 we will apply the steps learned in the previous module and build a data model while learning and implementing additional items to create the foundation of the model. We will introduce initial security concepts and the Q&A feature in this module. We will cover common data modeling techniques, adding columns to support the data model, row-level security and Q&A considerations.
Module 06: Creating Model Calculations with DAX
This module will introduce DAX and some of the critical functions and operators necessary to enhance a data model, including the concepts of measures, and calculated columns and tables, and Time Intelligence. We will cover an introduction to DAX, creating tables and columns, measures, the CALCULATE expression and Time-Intelligence functions.
Module 07: Optimizing Model Performance
Module 7 introduces steps, processes, and concepts necessary to optimize a data model for enterprise-level performance. We will cover how to fine-tune the data model, Cardinality, and identifying performance issues.
Module 08: Creating Reports
In this module we will introduce the fundamental concepts and principles of building a report, including selecting the correct visuals, designing a page layout, and applying basic but critical functionality including slicing and filtering. We will cover selecting a visualization, configuring visualizations, formatting pages and enhancing the report.
Module 09: Enhancing Reports for Usability and Performance
Module 9 will help the student think beyond the basics of report building and discusses topics for enhancing the report for usability and performance. We will cover bookmarks and navigation, designing cohesive pages and interactions and improving reports.
Module 10: Creating Dashboards
In this module we will learn about dashboards and the many features and functionality they contain. The student learns how to take the report they built in the previous module and pin it to a dashboard, then enhance to dashboard for additional usability and insights. We will cover dashboard design, real-time dashboards and dashboard enhancements.
Module 11: Enhancing Reports and Applying Advanced Analytics
Module 11 will teach how to apply additional features to enhance the report for analytical insights in the data, equipping the student with the steps to use the report for actual data analysis. We will also show additional steps and concepts to apply and perform advanced analytics on the report for even deeper and meaningful data insights. We will cover navigation, basic analysis, grouping, binning, and clustering, analysis over time and advanced analysis.
Module 12: Managing and Sharing Power BI Assets
Module 12 will cover concepts of managing Power BI assets, including datasets and workspaces, as well as how to apply role-level security to a dataset. It will also teach how to create and manage workspaces, as well as how to share content, including reports and dashboard, and how to distribute an App. We will cover Dataset management, configure row-level security, Create and Manage workspaces, Enhancing datasets and reports in the workspace and sharing and distributing content.
Module 13: Working with Paginated Reports in Power BI
This module will teach students about paginated reports. The student will learn what they are how they fit into the Power BI spectrum, and then look at how to build and publish a report. We will cover an introduction to Paginated Reports, data sources and datasets, adding visual elements and enhancing and publishing reports.
