Moving to a Cloud First World

Adopting the Cloud requires new skills

Adopting cloud technologies at an enterprise scale requires guidance for reskilling, hiring, governance, migration and opererations that most organizations don't have experience in executing.

Common Blockers of Cloud Adoption

Lack of skills is often cited as one of the top blockers for Cloud adoption

Often training isn't customized and tailored to the organization's actual needs

Training can be expensive and difficult to scale logistically for reskilling an entire organization

Adoption requires process improvments such as agile methodologies and change managment to succeed

Azure Adoption | Instructor-Led Courses

IL - Cloud Mindset for Decision Makers Workshop
Beginner | 1 Day | more...
This workshop is designed to guide business and technical leadership through the process of adopting Azure within their organization.

Attendees will learn how to form a strategic cloud strategy team that includes stakeholders across the organization. Members of the team will learn how to build a cloud strategy that clearly outlines your success criteria, including timelines and business outcomes.

A transition to the cloud doesn't have to be painful for the staff implementing the transformation. Attendees will learn best practices for helping their staff adapt to the change the cloud will bring by focusing on topics such as strategic communications, hiring and re-skilling for the cloud, as well as continuous learning.

From there, attendees will learn best practices for forming a Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) as well as understanding how to structure the technical teams necessary to move or modernize workloads in the cloud.

Throughout the course, attendees will learn how they can individually impact change that overtime will help transform an organization into an agile, DevOps friendly, digital workplace.

IL - Implementing Azure Governance
Intermediate | 2 Days | more...

As organizations move beyond individual projects and begin to use Azure at scale, they frequently experience a number of common challenges. These include poor resource organization, lack of compliance with best practices, and lack of adequate control over production systems. This can cause a substantial impact in unnecessary costs, team inefficiency, and even customer impact due to live site management mistakes.

To enable cloud adoption at scale, it is crucial that organizations invest in and implement an Azure governance framework that will ensure the value of the cloud can be realized across the organization while at the same time maintaining control, visibility and compliance.

Azure provides a range of powerful tools which can be used to implement governance at scale. In this learning path, you will study each of these tools in depth. This provides the skills needed to implement a robust Azure governance framework.

After attending, students will be able to:
Control access to Azure resources using Azure role-based access control (RBAC), including building their own custom roles to implement a true least-privilege security model.
Enforce compliance with organization policies and regulatory requirements using Azure Policy, including custom policies, compliance reports, and automatic mitigation.
Deploy Azure governance efficiently and at scale across the organization using Management Groups
Organize resources using proven best practice methodologies and explore resources at scale using the powerful Azure Resource Graph query language.
Deploy and managed controlled environments for use by other teams using Azure Blueprints
Gain insight into Azure costs, provide roll-up reporting, and implement budgets and cost alerts across the organization using Azure Cost Management.
IL - Architecting an Enterprise Cloud
Advanced | 3 Days | more...

A successful migration to Azure begins with ensuring your team has setup Azure subscriptions, security, policies, connectivity, cost management, operations and monitoring correctly using best practices and proven guidance. Ensuring workloads are properly architected for PaaS or IaaS is critical as a misconfiguration could delay or rollback part of your cloud migration. In this course, we will discuss architecture and governance best practices and patterns to help prepare your organization for a digital transformation to Microsoft Azure.

Topics will include:

  • Azure Subscription Management
  • Using the Azure EA Portal
  • Infrastructure and PaaS Architecture best practices
  • Managing subscriptions at scale using Management Groups
  • Controlling risk using Azure Policy
  • Role Based Access Control (RBAC)
  • Auditing and Monitoring with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
  • Cost Management overview
  • Building best practices and reusable intellectual property (including Azure Blueprints)
  • Setting up a Center of Excellence within your organization
IL - Azure Cost Optimization
Beginner | 1 Day | more...

Many organizations spend more on their Azure deployemnts because their workloads are not properly cost-optimized. In this course, students will learn how to avoid over-spending on Azure by creating and maintaining a cost-optimized application.

The course opens by explaining Azure subscription and resource management, and the governance controls available to control unauthorized Azure spending. Students then study the Azure billing model across a wide range of common resource types, together with the available discount plans, and learn how to use the Azure Pricing calculator and related tools to generate accurate cost forecasts. This is followed by a detailed presentation of practical of cost-savings techniques which students can apply optimize the cost footprint of a wide range of common workloads.

The course also discusses the tools available for cost management in Azure. This includes cost reporting, internal cross-charging, and billing alerts. Also covered are the organizational changes required to implement a successful cost management structure and create a cost-conscious culture within an organization.

This course will introduce students to practical hands-on steps such as automated resizing and shut off of resources.
